Secondary Education - Ryan Global Schools

Exposure to and engagement in a variety of subjects

Exposure to and engagement in a variety of subjects provides a student with an indispensable intellectual toolkit. Secondary education at RGS delivers a curriculum that is both stimulating and challenging, providing a broad and balanced education that is essential in preparing students for the future.

As a registered centre with Cambridge International Examinations, the secondary education consists of three distinct, consecutive phases from the prestigious University of Cambridge based in the United Kingdom.

1. FOUNDATION (Grades 6 to 8)

Our Foundation curriculum offers a stimulating, enjoyable and comprehensive subject-based programme leading to the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

This critical period of a child’s education provides them with an international framework of academic challenge and life skills appropriate to this stage of adolescence. It is a time in which students begin to assume responsibility for their own learning.

The comprehensive curriculum offers breadth and depth in the following areas

  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics)
  • Humanities (History/Geography)
  • ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
  • Second Language (Hindi)
  • Foreign Language (French)
  • Creative and Expressive Arts (Music/Drama/Art/Dance)
  • Physical Education
  • Personal and Social Education
2. IGCSE (Grades 9 to 10)

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds. The programme is built around the core subjects of mathematics, science and English. Science is taught as three separate disciplines – Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Students are strongly advised to take English as a First Language however for certain students, English as a Second Language is suggested.

To ensure a student centric curriculum, a range of additional subjects are offered within prescribed option groups. Alongside the core subjects, students opt for a minimum of four additional subjects. Knowledge and understanding is reinforced through a cross-curricular and trans- disciplinary approach. Subjects* currently being followed by students include:

  • Business Studies
  • Economics
  • ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
  • Environmental Management
  • Geography
  • History
  • French
  • Hindi
3. ADVANCED LEVEL (Grades 11 to 12)

The AS (Advanced Subsidiary) and A (Advanced) qualifications are widely regarded as one of the best pre- university courses as it allows its graduates to meet the requirements of virtually all the world’s educational establishments including universities throughout India. RGS promotes breadth through a combination of international qualifications which empower students to specialize.

Most students opt for six subjects – three at AS Level and three at A Level. Subjects* being followed by our current students include

  • Science Stream
          Biology, Chemistry and Physics

  • Engineering Stream
          Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics

  • Commerce Stream
          Business Studies, Economics and Accounting

  • Arts Stream
          English Literature, History and French

AS English Language is compulsory for all students and is completed in one year. Students then have options to select additional AS subjects to compliment their specialized areas.
